All in details

It is Saturday and I am dreading a BBQ on Sunday because my very judgmental and vocal mother-in-law is going to be there.

Ever since I joined the family, she has always thought it was OK to comment on every piece of my plus size wardrobe.  I wouldn’t mind so much, except her taste is very flamboyant – she is into big floral prints and bold colors and I am much more conservative.  I always prefer classic and simple plus size clothing.

While I like to dress well, I know that “less is more” and it is all in the details for women’s plus size clothing.

That’s why I love to shop at generousfashions.com or comfortinfashion.com.   I love their stylish pieces that are so well made and the prices are so reasonable.

For every day casual or dressy pieces and everything in between, they are my “go to” source for plus size clothing.  Their items really fit my shape.

It is going to be challenging and the temperature is forecast to be 90 degrees, so it has to be just right. A quick check of my wardrobe and I know the perfect piece for a BBQ with my mother-in-law – a V-neck with butterfly sleeves accented with crinkle print sleeves and bottom band and stitched neckline.  It is classic and simple in stunning lilac, but has just enough pizzazz in the printed trim to make it perfect for a fun summer afternoon BBQ and it is machine washable 100% viscose.

I don’t know what my mother-in-law is going to have to talk about now!  This top has all the details that she loves while fitting into my style taste as well. Ha!  I can’t wait now.  She is going to be so surprised that she may be speechless for a change!  I’m looking forward to a great day.

Trends-Fashion-Fit: Dress Accordingly to your Body Type

Whoever grew up with the words “honey, don’t forget to pick out a trendy outfit for school today” or “Lisa, review your Vogue before class”.   Who starts a trend?  A trendy person?  There are lots of trends:  food, yoga, apps, wine and of course my favorite fashion.  Coco Channel truly had some of these best quotes pertaining to fashion, like:

That says it All for me.

  • Be you
  • Be your own trend

Especially when it comes to plus size clothing.  You can combine trends in small amounts but the most important is to know your body type first.  Take a look into the mirror.  What is reflected back you?  Is your body type any of these:

  • apple,
  • pear or
  • hourglass

Every women has a certain body type which is unique and beautiful.  Street clothing trends do not feature sizing for women over a size 14 and in fact definitely not over size 16.   That is the truth.  However they are catching up with women’s plus size clothing companies like Kiyonna. (Lane Bryant dances around trends and Macy’s sizing stops at a 2x.  I will not even discuss Express!)  Often when a skinny-trendy-fashion is introduced it does not translate so well into plus sized clothes.  The designers do not understand our proportions.  WE DO NOT GET WIDER! OUR SHOULDERS and NECKS DON’T INCREASE IN THICKNESS AND WIDTH!

I am not going to tell you what to wear for your body type; instead this is a lecture to discover clothing that fits and accentuates your best features.  If you are a pear you have a bit of a waist and curves about the hips.  If you are an apple celebrate your body shape, because you have curves!  Now here is the secret:  the best plus size clothing you can purchase and wear is the one that looks best on you.  Let the skinny’s spend their monies on fashion that is meant to go out of style.  Instead you will always be in fashion because you have set the trend.

Now go out there and show them!  Build a clothing collection that is YOU!

Casual Plus Size Clothing for Holiday Travel

Happy Holidays from Generous Fashions!

All around the world, thousands of people are getting ready for their holiday travel plans.  By train, plane, and car, relatives travel hundreds of miles to be together with their family during this special season.  The holidays are an exciting and memorable time for you to relax with your friends and relatives.  But before you can get to that relaxing time, you may run into a stressful task: packing for your trip.  What casual plus size clothing is best to bring along for holiday travel?

Keep It Simple

Over-packing is not a good thing; it will leave you stressed before, during, and after your trip.  Keeping your travel attire simple and stylish is ideal.  Plus size separates will help you do that.  Bring a few basic bottoms – your most comfortable pants and skirts – and mix and match them with some simple separates.  With just a few tops and bottoms, you can create several great outfits for your trip.   Pack some solid color pants (or 1-skirt).  Mostly likely you will have a pair of black pants, if not,  you should go ahead and purchase a pair.  Black pants as you know will go with everything and if you get a stain its easy to wash.  If you also have a navy pair of pants that is good too.  Try to say away from white color tops and pants while on vacation, unless you know you can get them cleaned.

Keep It Low-Maintenance

You don’t want to spend your whole holiday laundering and ironing finicky garments.  If you pack wrinkle resistant and wrinkle free items, you will be much more relaxed during your time with family.  Less time ironing means more time with the people you love, which is always a good thing.

Don’t let your clothing become an obstacle to a great holiday trip.  Pack simple, low-maintenance casual plus size clothing.  You’re sure to have a lovely holiday!

Color Themes For Plus Size Clothing For Travel

If you have trouble figuring out what clothes to bring with you when you travel, trust me, you are not alone. Packing can be frustrating, especially if you arrive at your destination just to realize you wish you had brought a different blouse or dress with you. But if you take some time to plan out your outfits before you start filling up the suitcase, you’ll find that packing doesn’t have to be all that difficult.

I like to choose a color theme for my plus size travel clothing. That doesn’t mean that I’ll be wearing the same outfit day in and out. But it does mean that I can bring a few easy to match bottoms, like some black or khaki pants, and them combine them with several different tops. I love blue and green, so I usually stick to them when I travel. With a couple of colorful tank tops, blouses, and jackets, I’m all set for a great vacation!

Before you start packing for your next trip, take a look through your closet and see what color themes you could go with. It’s always best to choose separates that will combine with lots of different plus size clothing. And if you want to get some nice new pants or tops for your next trip, check out plus size women’s clothing stores online; they have lots of great options and will deliver your new clothes right to your home.

Finding Plus Size Pants That Work For You

I like to wear skirts to work sometimes, but in general, I show up in pants. For me, they just feel much more comfortable. In the past I had trouble finding pants that would compliment my pear shaped body, but I haven’t given up and I’ve been able to find some great fits. But, that’s not to say that it will be a breeze to choose a nice pair of pants. It all depends on your body shape and what style you prefer.

For my body, I needed something with plenty of room in the back, but that wouldn’t look like it had lots of excess fabric. Most days you can find me in a pair of black pants; I feel that they give me a slimmer, more elongated look. But that’s not to say that other colors are wrong for curvy women, you just have to know how to coordinate your outfit. White pants with a nice tank top and cover up look great.

Plus size clothing coordinates well with pants; they are an easy bottom to use as a basis for a gorgeous outfit. I’m always on the lookout for a new jacket or blouse that I can put with my black or white pants to make a fun new look. I love that plus size women’s clothing is so versatile. You never have to be limited to just one style.

Plus Size Women’s Clothing Fabrics and Prints

I recently went shopping with some friends and was thrilled to find lots of clothing in my size. It wasn’t hard at all to put together a cute new outfit. But shopping got me thinking about all the different fabrics and prints designers use. Which are best for plus size clothing? Here are some basic tips.

The huge no-no for fabrics is anything obviously clingy. I want to show off my curves, but clingy clothes grab onto my problem places all too easily. Heavier fabrics like cotton and canvas are definitely a good option. As far as prints go, they need to be proportional; big prints are OK, but there is such a thing as too big too. Stripes can be work great, horizontal or vertical. But you need to know your body and choose styles that match; horizontal stripes are best on pear shaped women who want to draw attention to their top half.

I like having lots of options, and I don’t believe in limited my wardrobe to just a couple fabrics or prints. You should try out lots of different styles and find what looks and feels good for you. Thanks to the Internet, it’s really easy to shop for plus size clothing. Designers that work exclusively with plus size women’s clothing have done a great job creating comfortable and flattering outfits.
